Generally, to avoid a "soft" surface that can turn ankles, you want a crushed, well-graded product - not rounded river gravel, for a patio. Decomposed granite can be very good for a driveway - pretty much any hard, durable rock type that is crushed works for that.
Decomposed granite (often referred to as DG) is a type of gravel that consists of small particles of granite rock. When used as a landscape product, it is typically compacted to produce a hard, stable surface. The material itself is relatively inexpensive, and the labor required to build a walkway or patio from DG is often simple and fast.
The decomposed granite was crushed to a mostly uniform consistency, with only a few larger pieces that had to be tossed aside. The material compacted well with a hand tamper. By only issue is that the website states that the product is on Aisle 60, Bay 021. It is not. There is a shelf tag, but no decomposed granite.
